Nilam recently joined Dr Nichola Conlon, a leading cellular health expert, on Dr Barbara Sturm’s panel of industry experts to discuss the future of skincare. Hosted by Kathleen Baird-Murray from British Vogue, the expert panel talked all things exosomes, non-surgical anti-ageing skin treatments, what you can do to prevent ageing at a cellular level by boosting your body’s own self-repair capabilities and so much more.
A key theme in the discussion was inflammation. The experts discussed how frequent inflammation of the skin can be damaging to the cells – Nilam explained how controlled inflammation by a trained practitioner using technology such as Morpheus 8 or Microneedling can be beneficial to reversing the ageing process. As long as the inflammation is controlled, there is time between treatments and the appropriate aftercare is followed, treatments like this can do wonders for the skin. Nilam stressed that Microneedling should not be done at home as this involves breaking the skin and can be dangerous if the skin is then exposed to non-sterile products.
Morpheus 8 treatment is available at Dermaspa Clinic in Milton Keynes, owned by Nilam. Nilam says by the time people usually get seriously into skincare, they already have damaged skin, with signs such as pigmentation, ageing, wrinkles, loose skin etc. There isn’t a lot that skincare can do at this stage, and a lot of people don’t want to have major surgery. Nilam is a big fan of using energies for the skin, such as radio frequency. She is also a huge fan of Microneedling, and Morpheus 8 combines these two technologies. This treatment traumatises the skin to induce an inflammatory response by the skin to repair itself. The Morpheus 8 device has 24 pins in the attachment which penetrate the skin and deliver energy to the depth you need to work on. It can tackle things like fat coagulation, stimulate collagen and tighten and resurface the skin. As this is quite an aggressive treatment, you can’t have it all the time. It is usually advised to have up to three in a row, 6-12 weeks apart, and then an annual maintenance session thereafter. Maintenance is important as the skin is constantly ageing. Although there is a downtime period, Nilam believes this treatment is great for rejuvenation and one of the most realistic alternatives to surgery.
Nilam often gives her clients exosomes to apply to the treated area after Morpheus 8, which promotes a quicker healing process. Dr Nichola Conlon explained that as the body ages, it takes longer to repair itself, and exosomes are a perfect example of how to take factors out of the body, concentrate them and re-administer them. She believes this is the best designed treatment as it was designed by your body for your body in the first place.
