FAQs
Does it actually hurt?
Honestly — most people are surprised. Soprano Titanium uses a continuous glide rather than sharp pulses, so it feels more like warmth than anything sharp. Most clients describe it as a warm massage sensation. We also cool the skin throughout, so there is very little discomfort even on sensitive areas.
How many sessions will I need?
Everyone is different, which is why we do not give a one-size-fits-all answer. Hair grows in cycles, so we need to catch it at the right stage — typically anywhere from 6 to 8 sessions, sometimes more for certain areas or hair types. We give you a realistic plan at consultation.
Can it work on darker skin tones?
Yes — and this is something Soprano Titanium was specifically designed for. Older lasers really struggled with darker skin because they could not distinguish between pigment in the hair and pigment in the skin. Soprano uses three wavelengths together, which means we can treat a much wider range of skin tones safely, in the right hands.
Is it permanent?
The correct term is permanent hair reduction — and we think that is a more honest way to describe it. Over a course of sessions most people see a dramatic reduction in thickness and density. Some areas may need the occasional top-up, particularly hormone-sensitive zones like the chin or bikini line, but it is nothing like going back to regular shaving or waxing.
How do I prepare for a session?
Shave the area 24 hours before — not wax or epilate, because we need the follicle to be intact. Avoid fake tan for at least two weeks beforehand, skip retinoids and strong acids on the area, and come in with clean product-free skin. That is really it.
Can I have it done if I have been in the sun?
We would ask you to wait if you are freshly tanned or sunburnt — the skin needs to be at its natural baseline tone for the laser to work safely. Fake tan is a no for the same reason. But you do not need to avoid summer altogether — you just need to time your sessions sensibly and keep up your SPF in between.
What is the Fitzpatrick scale and why does it matter?
The Fitzpatrick scale classifies skin tone from Type 1 — very fair, always burns — through to Type 6, which is deeply pigmented and never burns. We use it at consultation to set the laser to exactly the right wavelength and energy level for your skin. It is why a proper consultation and patch test matters so much — we are not guessing, we are calibrating to you specifically.
Why does the price vary so much between clinics?
Laser hair removal done properly takes time, training, and equipment that is not cheap to run. When you see a very low price, something is usually being scaled back — whether that is the machine, the session time, or the experience of the person using it. We use Soprano Titanium and our therapists are properly trained on it. It is not the cheapest option, but you are paying for results you can trust.
Will it work on blonde or grey hair?
This is one we have to be upfront about — laser targets pigment in the hair follicle, so very light blonde, white, grey or red hair does not give the laser enough to work with. Results in those cases are limited whatever the technology. If that is you, it is worth having an honest conversation with us at consultation about what your options are.
What should I do after a session?
Keep it simple — cool the area if it feels warm, avoid hot baths, saunas and intense exercise for 24 hours, and hold off on retinoids or strong acids on that area for a few days. SPF is non-negotiable on any exposed treated skin. Your skin might look a little pink straight after but it usually settles within a few hours
